5 Things to Know About ME, Lauren Prats

Anyone that knows me never needs to ask what I'm thinking or If I'm being honest.

I guess it comes with the job!

This October marks 14 years since I began my career as an Esthetician. It feels like yesterday when I told my parents I was not going back to college after successfully failing my 1st semester. I was totally uninterested in all things school. I told my parents  I wanted to be a cosmetologist and they were somewhat supportive, only for the simple fact that “people need haircuts and you can get a job somewhere.” I was on board until I realized I hated touching other peoples wet hair. I went back to the parental’s and said “ I have always loved makeup and I want to pursue a career as an Esthetician." They were not fans at first. Only because “they would be supporting me financially forever." They made me work for a year in my “industry” (cosmetic counter). I really loved it and blossomed. I am Dyslexic and ADD so they were just happy I was successful and more importantly supporting myself financially. Fast forward 14 years later, I have never regretted a day of work and I'm super passionate about my industry. As HiBrow has grown, I have worked on clients less but I am constantly working on improving service experience and creating something special that is only available at a HiBrow Brand. These are some things we can chat about next time you see me in the store.

1.) I do NOT eat fruit!

The only fruit I do eat are apples. I am very picky when it comes to texture. I feel like all fruit is squishy and slimy. I also do not eat any pie. Its mainly the texture of both, it's the worst. I am allergic to bananas and avocado. My throat will itch causing me to make this strange noise, which drives everyone around me nuts! I am a creature of habit. I can eat the same thing 5 days in a row and not get tired of it. Mozzarella sticks from sonic are one of my favorite foods. I also like a variation of cheese sticks. Im obsessed with these greek “cheese fingers". They are delicious and you will thank me later when you find them!

2.) I married my childhood, family friend.

I first met my husband Christian when he was 5 and I was 3. We had a pizza picnic at my now In-laws house. He asked me to marry him and I used a Tulane pompom as a veil and he had on this football shirt. We never dated in real life until 2007 and we actually had to hide it from our parents because we knew it would be emotional and exciting. Our moms have been best friends for over 30 years and still remain best friends. It was really exciting for our families because we have known each others extend family for so long. We got engaged 6 months after dating and married in 2009. Our wedding was really exciting, especially the part when I fell down the stairs in my wedding dress. People think we joke about it, but I get really nervous and do weird things. Well this time it happened to be my wedding day! We now have 2 boys Eli and Dylan and I am so in love with my little family!

3.) I think I am the funniest person ever!

I secretly would be a stand up comedian but I have terrible stage fright. I love to play jokes on people. My Dad is probably my biggest comedic support. He is constantly telling me “I don’t know why you don’t have a YouTube Channel.” He is usually the person I call when I do or think of something funny. I think I am pretty good story teller and my life is a constant a joke. If something can go wrong, it will and I’ve learned to just go with it. My family used to think I was being “dramatic” but it's really just my life. I also don’t know when to keep quiet and will usually keep talking, eventually saying something to make those around me feel awkward.

4.) I wanted to be a backup dancer for Genuwine when I was growing up.

I danced all my life and I would memorize dances back in the 90’s when the “BOX” music station was on. When I told my parents I wanted to be a backup dancer, my Dad was unimpressed and told me that I needed to find a new career. It's not because I was a bad dancer, I was actually really good. SO I worked really hard and showed my dad how I memorized the dance. I just remember the look on his face. So he encouraged me to find another opportunity  to dance, maybe broadway!

5.) I can never finish a drink.

I don’t know what it is. I normally have 3-4 drinks at my desk, all half full. It is something about it being finished. I like to have options and the more the merrier is my motto! I know it’s wasteful but the end of a drink is not like the first few sips. The ice is melted or the bubbles are gone. Whatever the reason is, they never get finished. It really is a problem. There is no hope!
